Reedswood, Walsall.

Reclamation of approximately 50 hectares of derelict land, the core of which was the former Walsall Power Station, which itself occupied some 32 hectares. The whole of the area was underlain by shallow old coal and ironstone mine workings (resulting in substantial surface instability) and contained numerous mineshafts, many unrecorded.

Over the years large quantities of contaminated industrial waste had been loose tipped over the surface and these factors together with the remnant footings and foundations from the Power Station rendered the site the largest area of dereliction within the Walsall area.

Following the reclamation, the majority of the site has been developed to deliver 10 hectares of housing and a retail park comprising:

  • Sainsbury’s – 6000m2 with petrol filling station

  • Matalan – 3750m2

  • Dunelm – 3000m2

  • Lidl – 1875m2

  • Focus – 1875m2

  • Carphone Warehouse

  • MacDonald’s
